Where should I fly in?

  • The closest airport is San Diego International Airport (SAN).
  • Taxi or ride-share from SAN to the hotel is typically about 15-20 minutes and costs about $20-$30.

When should I arrive?

  • Pre-conference events start on Monday, August 12th and offer many opportunities for networking, including Pre-Conference Cohorts at 2 p.m., and then the PMDMC opening celebration at 5:30 p.m. Brave Talk: The Public Media Women in Leadership Conference, which requires advance registration and a separate fee, starts on Thursday, August 15th at 10 a.m.. (Times are subject to change, but not expected to.)

What are some fun things I can do around San Diego?

  1. Visit Balboa Park and its museums – Balboa Park is a cultural hub with numerous museums like the San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Us. It’s approximately a 10-minute drive from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. The park also offers beautiful gardens and the famous San Diego Zoo.

  2. Explore Seaport Village – Just a short walk (about 0.5 miles) from the hotel, Seaport Village offers waterfront dining, shopping, and entertainment. It’s a great place to enjoy the San Diego bay.

  3. Tour the Gaslamp Quarter – This historic downtown neighborhood, just a short walk (about 0.5 miles) from the hotel, is known for its nightlife, restaurants, and Victorian architecture.

  4. Discover Barrio Logan – Known for its vibrant Chicano art scene and fantastic Mexican cuisine, Barrio Logan is a cultural gem about 2 miles from the hotel. Don’t miss the iconic Chicano Park and its murals.

  5. Check out Little Italy’s bars and restaurants – Little Italy is a vibrant neighborhood known for its excellent dining and lively bar scene, located about 1 mile from the Hilton San Diego Bayfront. It’s a great place to experience Italian cuisine, seafood, craft beer, and trendy cafes. The area is also known for its charming atmosphere and frequent cultural events.

  6. Take a ferry to Coronado Island – You can catch a ferry from the San Diego Bay, near the hotel, to Coronado Island. The ferry will drop you off at the Coronado Ferry Landing which is home to a range of boutique shops and eateries.   7. Stroll along the Embarcadero – Just steps from the Hilton, the Embarcadero is perfect for a scenic walk along the waterfront. Here you can visit the USS Midway Museum and the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

  8. Visit Old Town San Diego – About a 15-minute trolley ride or drive from the hotel, Old Town is the historic heart of San Diego, where you can explore California’s early history, visit museums, and enjoy Mexican cuisine.

  9. Explore San Diego’s beach neighborhoods – San Diego is known for its beautiful beaches. Areas like Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and Mission Beach, and La Jolla offer distinct experiences, from upscale dining to vibrant beach cultures, all within a 20 to 30-minute drive from the hotel.
